So far, her focus has been on matters such as school safety, opioids and infrastructure and trade. In her current position, Schlapp does not deal much with journalists. She garnered some attention after her name came up as a possible candidate in the race to replace Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. The fight has been bitter. The allies of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh began to joust within the press. Schlapp claimed that, following the time the Washington Examiner had published an article that had negative reviews of Sayegh's persona, she phoned Sayegh in a private chat.
